I mentioned first generation because HP currently release HP Pavilion dv7 for windows 8 with major changes and improvement over the first generation released for windows Vista and Windows XP.

2. How to Identify the first and 2nd Generation?
You can Identify by looking at the specific model number, for example look at the model below,
if the highlighted is a number : 1st generation,-- if alphabet : 2nd generation :
